Julie and Brioude decided to forgo the Melbourne Royal Show and instead attend the New Zealand National, held in Feilding, near Palmerston North.  We enjoyed the experience, but were surprised at how few coloured animals there were.  We were also amazed to see a trailer pull into the shed to offload the freshly cut grass for the alpacas to eat!

We visited a couple of local alpaca farms and did a lot of sight seeing around the beautiful countryside.

The Colourbration Show was huge this year – about 450 animals (over 150 suris). The number of coloured suris was amazing and would represent the strongest competition anywhere in Australia – even better that the National IMO. This show is becoming the MUST NOT MISS event for coloured breeders. Baarrooka, as a member of the Strathbogie Ranges Suri Breeders, was a major sponsor for the show, We had a great display area and had many visitors to our red and purple ‘lounge’ where we had the best view of the show ring.

Baarrooka animals did well with3rd in Junior Fawn Female, 2nd in Adult Fawn Male and 2nd in Junior Brown Female. Baarrooka Breeze was awarded 3rd Junior Black female in a huge class and 1st Junior Brown Male. A Baarrooka-bred male, now owned by Jess Harris of Eldaraigne was awarded 1st in the Senior Fawn Male class and a Rockefeller cria, owned by Esterlina was awarded 1st Junior Fawn Male.

In the fleece classes, Baarrooka was awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the 6-18 m White class, 1st and 2nd in the 18-30 m White class and Supreme White Fleece with Baarrooka Mr Mister’s fleece; 2nd in each of the 6-18 m, 18-30 m and 30+ m Fawn Classes; and 1st in the 6-18 m Brown class and Supreme Brown Fleece with Baarrooka Lethal Weapon’s fleece.
